Alan Holt has "nostalgic recollections of doing guard duty at the main gates - 57 years ago! Have lost touch with everybody in the attached photograph. But despite the discipline of those days - I recall being with a great bunch of mates, sharing the everyday drill, chores and little challenges that were thrown at us by our NCO in charge! Nice bloke really - but have forgotten his name. National Service did a lot of good. I went straight from School - a lad of 18 - and soon learned how to be a man! What a pity it wasn't continued. Might have solved a lot of problems we have today!
